Family vacations are always fun. But when Sridevi landed on the ChhatrapatiShivaji International Airport with her family, his daughters Jhanvi (16) and Khushi (12) looked all puffy-eyed. And it was because the two sisters had to leave one of their newfound friends behind.
Five days before they boarded the flight from Newark Liberty International Airport, Sridevi had purchased a Hawaain Poi Dog for her daughters. However, at the airport, the officials made it clear that the puppy cannot accompany the family on the flight, as the paperwork required to issue the NOC was not in place.
Sridevi and BoneyKapoor along their two daughters were in New York for a vacation. The actress suffered a knee injury and the doctor advised her bed rest. The family had to extend the vacation. However, she soon recovered. It was during this time that Sridevi's younger daughter spotted the pooch while on a shopping trip in the city. And it was love at first sight. The puppy worked its charm on Jhanvi as well and the two sisters somehow managed to convince their parents to get it home.
A friend of Sridevi said: "Both the girls were overjoyed that their parents had agreed to buy them the pooch they wanted."
However, their happiness was shortlived. Nothing had prepared them for what happened five days later. They had to leave their bundle of joy at the Newark airport. The airport officials wanted to check the papers for the pet and the family didn't have any. While Sridevi argued with the airport officials, Boney made frantic calls to the 'contacts' who matter. But nothing worked and the officials were not ready to budge.
According to rules, if you want to bring a pet from the US to India, you need to submit its details. After that, the airlines provides a certain cage for the pet and the pet is put in the Cargo Division of the flight. Importantly, you need a NOC from the Animal Husbandry Department. Sridevi and Boney had not completed all the formalities. Added Sridevi's friend, "The Kapoors had no clue that they need to declare the details of the pet before they can board the flight along with it."
They were strictly told about the regulations and given the option to either fly out without the dog or remain in the country to complete the paperwork. However, the family heaved a sigh of relief when they were told that the required paperwork could also be done from India. Boney quickly made arrangements to lodge the pup at a pet hotel and boarded the flight. The pup's resort stay will cost BoneyRs 10,000 per week.
As things stand, the paperwork is in process but the Kapoors will have to wait for at least four weeks before their beloved pooch comes home. Boney has big plans for Sridevi's birthday on August 13. From the looks of it, the Hawaiin Poi may just miss the big bash.
