Rati Agnihorti's husband shocked at the wife harassment allegations

On Saturday, Bollywood and Rati Agnihotri's friends were shocked when the usually pleasant and mild-mannered actress went to the Worli Police, citing a case of domestic violence against her husband, Anil Virwani.

Having known Rati and Anil for three decades; and having caught up with them from time to time, individually and as a couple, one was concerned. In fact, Rati who has been one of the most upfront actresses in the business has always conducted herself with dignity inside and outside of her home.

As for Anil, he too was usually pleasant. Two years ago, they both came together voicing similar thoughts for the well-being of their son Tanuj, who made his Bollywood debut with 'Luv U Soniyo'.

But the Agnihotri-Virwani love story came apart at the seams because the police confirmed that Rati has registered a harassment case against Anil after she walked in there and pressed charges under IPC sections 498A, 323 and 506 for torture, assault and reportedly issuing death treats.

While Rati remained unavailable for comment, Anil too seemed reluctant to speak about the sensitive matter. With some persuasion, he said, "You know that I have known Rati for two years before our marriage in 1985. As a celebrity husband, I have always kept myself away from the limelight. However, what has happened has saddened me. It is shameful and shocking. You must respect my wishes not to say anything more in the matter because it is between me and my near and dear ones."
