In a strong statement, Elangovan said, "Since you have resigned, the party will be cleansed and along with you if another person and his family (referring to P Chidambaram and son Karti Chidambaram) quit the party, it will help the party get stronger."

He said after being a minister for 10 years in the UPA government, the person (Chidambaram) ducked from contesting the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Cadres were so upset and this could not be explained in words, said Elangovan.
Reacting to Jayanthi's remarks about her family's contribution to the Congress, Elangovan recalled her grandfather M Bhaktavatsalam's rule in the state.

"As chief minister Bhaktavatsalam was responsible for the killing of several anti-Hindi agitators and also for not distributing rice in the PDS at the right time, the golden rule of Kamaraj came to an end in 1967 three years after Bakstavatsalam assumed charge," said Elangovan.
Thanking Jayanthi for leaving the Congress, Elangovan said after her exit, the party has a bright future.

The TNCC chief questioned the timing of Jayanthi's outburst against Congress leadership. "She quit as minister in 2013. What made her wait for 13 months to take on the party leadership? Is it due to Modi's advice or fear of Modi," asked Elangovan.
In a sarcastic comment, Elangovan said for 27 years, Jayanthi had continued as Rajya Sabha member and it is a Guinness record.
