AHMEDABAD: A 16-year-old class 12 students paid with her life for falling in love. Shocked and shamed on seeing her pictures posted on a social networking website by her boyfriend, the girl jumped to death in the Sabarmati river from Sardar Bridge on October 5. The girl's father, Razzak Chhipa, 46, a resident of Jamalpur, is now running from pillar to post seeking justice.

Ellisbridge police did not pay heed to Rani's father's plea. He told TOI: "Rani was driven to suicide as her boy friend Farzan had betrayed her by posting her photos on a social website account which Rani and Farzan used to jointly operate."

"They registered a complaint of suicide, but didn't move to take any action against Farzan. I then approached women police cell, cyber cell of city crime branch, but no one was ready to listen. I then sent my application by post to all of them including the city police commissioner's office," said Chhipa, who owns a factory near Chandola lake.

Rani, a standard 12 student, met Farzan at a tuition class. "Rani was so obsessed with Farzan that she would even sell her ornaments to get Faisal gifts," recounted Chhipa.

Rani's elder sister Meena alleged that Farzan started dating another teenaged girl. "This break-up upset Rani," added Meena.

A day before Bakr-Eid, that is on October 5, Rani left her house in the afternoon. "At 4.30 pm Farzan called up Meena and said that Rani had jumped off the Sardar Bridge. Her body was fished out the next day," said Chhipa.

Chhipa added that they have found Rani's dairy which contained ID's of various social networking website accounts along with passwords. "I went to a cybercafe and on opening the accounts found that Rani's intimate photos with Farzan had been posted there," said Chhipa.

Rani's mother Rashida said: "Farzan had uploaded Rani's intimate photos. We found that even four days after Rani's death the account was operated by him."

On the other hand, sub-inspector D D Vasava of Ellisbridge police station said, "We are investigating the case. We are waiting for the viscera report to ascertain Rani's cause of death. Vasava denied that Rani's father had ever contacted him."
