PATNA: Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's son, Pravin Manjhi, embarrassed his father by getting embroiled in a sexual escapade that on Thursday led to calls for the CM's resignation by the opposition BJP.

Police sources said Pravin and a woman constable of the Bihar Military Police (in plain clothes) arrived at a Bodh Gaya hotel in an SUV on Tuesday evening. Leaving behind his bodyguard at the hotel's parking lot, Pravin asked the manager for a deluxe suite. The demand was met instantly since his identity was known.

Cops said this wasn't the first time he had made such request, and that he had been frequenting the hotel with the same woman. However, fed up with the arrears he had run up, the hotel staff locked the two in their room. It is learnt that an altercation ensued between the hotel owner and Pravin in full public view over the unpaid bills.

As other hotel guests gathered, Pravin apparently called for help. Soon, a man claiming to be Pravin's uncle began frantically calling the hotel staff. Pravin was finally released after he had coughed up the Rs 6,000 he owed the hotel.

A police officer, preferring anonymity, said two adults sharing a hotel room did not amount to a cognizable offence and that any complaint regarding this wasn't actionable.

When contacted, Gaya SSP Nishant Tiwari said he hadn't received any complaint against any BMP woman constable or a "VVIP son".

Bodh Gaya Hotel Association general secretary Sanjay Singh said stories about the sexcapade were doing the rounds but no hotelier had lodged any complaint.

However, BJP on Thursday called for Manjhi's resignation on moral grounds, claiming his son was in an exploitative relationship with the woman constable and was throwing his weight around.

"The CM must take moral responsibility for his son Pravin Manjhi's sexual dalliances with a woman constable. He indulged in sexual exploitation of the constable," accused Bihar BJP general secretary Suraj Nandan Kushwaha.

"Either the hotel owner or one of the persons present there informed the Bodh Gaya police and also called them in. The police reached the spot and later cleared the bill out of their pocket," Kushwaha claimed.

Kushwaha alleged that the Gaya police was covering up the matter as the incident involved the CM's son and had occurred in his home district, Gaya. "Nonetheless, the media in the entire Magadh region reported the incident," he said.
