Excerpts from an interview with TOI.
What's your assessment of the law-and-order situation in Tauru?
I've never seen this kind of lawlessness in my life in any area or district. I was surprised when I heard that bullets were being shot in public so openly. It is really sad for people who stay here. It's sad that some people are still driven by the communal forces.
What do you think are the causes?
We got some reports that there were some politically motivated factors that played a role. The state elections are round the corner.

How is the police reacting to this challenge?
We want to first solve the 12 cases we have registered. We have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) of five to six members. They will carry out an impartial probe and solve the cases so that the guilty can be punished quickly.
How do you plan to restore people's confidence in the administration?
My next agenda would be to solve previous cases with urgency so that people start trusting the administration and police machinery. People have a common complaint that several villages and houses have loads of arms and the police can't even dare to enter such localities.
