Party circles said that the names under consideration for the post included another veteran Murli Manohar Joshi who has also figured among the probables for one of the heavyweight portfolios.
Going by the estimates in party circles, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley remained favourites for the crucial portfolios of home and finance, in that order. Sushma Swaraj was also in contention for an important responsibility, while former party chief Nitin Gadkari seemed poised to get charge of an infrastructure ministry.

Arun Shourie continued to be mentioned among possibilities, though many felt that finding a Rajya Sabha berth for the former disinvestment minister, who is not an MP, could turn out to be a hindrance.

As speculation spiked about the shape of the ministry, party circles felt that Modi may not be deterred by aspirant's assessment of their seniority or contribution as he picks a mid-sized team including a few ministers of state to be sworn in along with him on Monday in a ceremony which may last just over an hour.
Modi held deliberations through the day. Those who met him included party colleagues Venkaih Naidu, Arun Jaitley, Amit Shah, Gopinath Munde,Ananth Kumar and J P Nadda who is tipped to take over as BJP chief from Rajnath Singh should the latter join the government.
