Police said the siblings, Sahab Singh, 41, and Kaptan Singh, 35, died on the spot after being shot from point blank range. Their father said despite apologizing for the mishap, the men in the car pushed Sahab around and hit him with a pistol butt. When Kaptan protested, one of the men instructed his accomplices to shoot them. Residents alleged one of the assailants was Kalu, a local tough whose brother is in jail.
The shooting at Bawana which killed two brothers, Sahab and Kaptan, was triggered by a minor road mishap. The victims' tempo had got stuck in the slush and as Kaptan pushed it out, the vehicle skid and hit the car parked on a lane in Sultanpur Dabas village.
The victims' were small time transporters. They had parked their tempo on a plot of land opposite their house and were leaving for work around 10.30am when the incident took place.
"As the vehicle was stuck in the mud, Kaptan had to push it. The vehicle skid and hit the Skoda that was parked on the road adjoining the plot," said Lal Chand, their father. He said that following this three or four men sitting inside the car came out and started abusing the two of them.
Locals said that the men first shot Kaptan on his torso and Sahab on his shoulder. When both of them fell, the men shot at them repeatedly.
"I heard the argument and came out of my shop. I saw the goons pumping at least 10-12 rounds into the brothers" said Bittu, a resident of the village. Locals added that the men managed to flee unopposed in the car.
They said one of the men involved in the attack was Kalu, a local tough whose brother is in jail. The locals informed the police immediately who took the two bodies to Ambedkar Hospital, from where they were sent for postmortem. The locals later reached the hospital and staged a protest demanding the arrest of the accused.
"We have formed several teams to nab the culprits. We have also identified the attackers," said a senior police official. He added that Kalu, whom the locals suspect, will also be taken in for questioning.
