NEW DELHI: MS Dhoni's 65 runs may have failed to avoid his team's embarrassing defeat against South Africa in the first ODI on Thursday, but his fighting knock earned him a place in record book as the highest scoring captain of India in ODIs.

The skipper reached 5278 runs in his 152nd ODI, leaving behind former captain Mohammad Azharuddin's tally of 5239 in 174 matches. Dhoni's average of 58.64 is also way ahead from Azhar's average of 39.39 as skipper.
