HYDERABAD: Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday hinted at a massive offensive by the Seemandhra lobby against the proposed division of the state which would be in the form of en masse resignations of all ministers including himself at an appropriate time.
The CM made this disclosure to ministers -Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Erasu Pratap Reddy and Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy -when they called on him to request him to forward their resignations to governor E S L Narasimhan. Earlier, Ganta and Erasu had met the governor who said the resignation letters needed to come through the chief minister.
"When we requested the chief minister to accept our resignations and forward them to the governor, he advised us to wait for some time. He said that we (Seemandhra ministers) will collectively take a decision at an appropriate time and that it would be in the form of en masse resignations," said infrastructure and investments minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.
"The CM is in touch with the party high command and expected to meet senior leaders in New Delhi in the next two to three days to discuss the division of the state," Ganta said.
Later, interacting with some farmers from Anantapur, the chief minister once again reiterated his opposition to the formation of Telangana. "The division of Andhra Pradesh is not good for farmers, particularly those from the Rayalaseema region. With the Tungabhadra flowing in from Karnataka, our (Rayalaseema) farmers are already facing hardships. If the state is divided, the water wars will only aggravate," he said.
