Language of Chetan Bhagat’s book pornographic: Gujarat HC

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court on Thursday criticized author Chetan Bhagat's book, 'Three Mistakes of My Life' for its language. Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya dubbed its language as "pornographic" while hearing a PIL objecting to the alleged projection of Hindus as solely responsible for the 2002 riots, in the recently released Bollywood film, Kai Po Che!.

Claiming that the film was based on Bhagat's book, the counsel for petitioner sought cancellation of the certificate issued by the censor board to the movie as it showed Hindus in a biased manner. He gave a copy of the book to the judges and the CJ read the paragraph on which the scene of rioting was based. After reading the passage, the CJ commented, "The language doesn't look decent. A chaste writer cannot write this stuff. The language looks pornographic." The paragraph the judges were reading contains abuses, and the chief justice stopped reading it further in open court.

Objecting to the projection of Hindus as rioters, the PIL claims that this is prohibited under section 5B of the Cinematograph Act and that the Censor Board had wrongly issued a certificate for public projection. It has urged the court to cancel the certificate and restrict release of the DVDs.
