NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday made the first arrest in the Deepak Bhardwaj murder case.

The cops arrested sharpshooter Purushottam Rana from outside Patiala court complex, while he was on his way to surrender along with the other sharpshooter Sunil Mann.

The two sharpshooters, who had allegedly killed the BSP tycoon in his south Delhi farmhouse on March 26, had decided to surrender as the police were hot on their trail and were piling up pressure on their families.

However, the police got a tip off about their plans and laid a trap at the Patiala court complex and other courts in the city.

As the two approached the court, cops managed to arrest Purushottam Rana.

But Sunil Mann managed to escape and reached the magistrate's court.

However, the magistrate refused to hear Sunil Mann and directed the cops to arrest him.

The cops have also arrested Rakesh, the owner of the Skoda car used in the killing.

On Sunday, the cops had detained the man who was allegedly driving the Skoda Laura car in which the killers entered his farmhouse.

The suspect, identified as Amit, was nabbed from a house in Jahangirpuri area of north Delhi, a source said.
