His body was brought to the village late on Tuesday. Except for some close relatives, most villagers kept away and only 24 persons, mainly family members, were present during the funeral. At 9 am on Wednesday, one Suresh Singh lit the pyre.
"He is no martyr, nor did he do something for which we have to feel proud or respect the departed soul. He has given bad name to our village and the district. Thus, we decided not to keep any contact with the family and also decided not to participate in the funeral procession," said Kailash Gujjar a farmer who lives in Kalladeh village of the district. Some of the villagers even asked the shopkeepers dealing with the items needed in funeral not to provide anything to the Ram Singh family.
Mangilal, Ram Singh's father said, "If my son had done a crime, he should have been punished by the court, but this was certainly not what he deserved. He was killed by the jail authorities in connivance with the inmates and this has to be probed properly. After my two sons were arrested by the Delhi police, the villagers had literally kept a distance with us. I had pleaded everyone to be present during the funeral rituals, but nobody is with us at this time."
