Police said the 19-year-old victim was abducted shortly after she sat in the auto around 8.30pm and driven for 25km with two men holding her tightly between them on the rear seat. At Dasna, she was taken to a field and raped.
Two of the accused, Ankit and Duppan, have been arrested and charged with rape, abduction and robbery. Both, in their early 20s, are petty criminals. The auto had been stolen from Masuri, Ghaziabad.
The victim lives in Trilokpuri, east Delhi, with her brother and sister. Their parents had died in an accident a few years ago. On Saturday, she had gone to Shipra mall to meet a friend.
She told the police that during the nightmarish 25km drive, the accused kept groping her and repeatedly threatened her against raising an alarm. A medical examination after the assault is yet to confirm rape, police said.
"After meeting her friend at the mall, the victim was waiting for an auto when the three men targeted her," Ghaziabad deputy superintendent of police Ranvijay said. "They stopped the auto next to her and even bargained about the fare to Delhi. After she got in, the accused took her to Dasna area via NH-24."
Police said initially the accused pretended that they were heading to Delhi but the driver suddenly made a U-turn and started heading for Dasna. The auto rode towards Indirapuram through the CISF camp road and on finding a police post there, they returned to the highway. The auto also drove through colonies along the highway, but the victim's mouth was so tightly held that she couldn't raise an alarm.
Ranvijay said the rape took place in the fields at Dehra Jhaal in Dasna. "After allegedly raping the girl, the accused fled taking away her ATM card and cash. The victim managed to get to a dhaba along NH-24 where the locals took her to the Masuri police station at 11.30pm.
"Though the medical examination hasn't confirmed rape, the FIR was lodged under IPC sections dealing with rape, among other crimes," Ranvijay said.
"After the complaint, our team began scanning all suspect auto drivers and auto lifters. During investigations, we found that an auto of one Premchand, a resident of Masuri, was stolen. It was allegedly stolen by Ankit, Duppan, Vishal and Sandeep. On sustained interrogation, the accused admitted their crime," Ranvijay said, adding that the accused have been sent to Dasna jail.
