BANGALORE: It was an early morning shocker for some students of Bangalore University in Jnanabharathi campus on Thursday. A dog was spotted carrying the head of a man in its mouth on the campus.
Chased by students, the dog let go of the head and fled. Alerted by students, police rushed to spot. After a search, police recovered a headless body in a forested area, away from the vice-chancellor's residence.
Police recovered a rope near the body, raising the suspicion that the victim may have committed suicide. "The spinal cord of the victim had been snapped. So there is a good chance that the dog must have taken away the head," a senior officer said.
"The body is completely decomposed and it must have been some time since the man committed suicide. We are yet to identify him. He may have been a middle-aged person," he added.
However, a senior IPS officer said police have been asked to probe all angles of the case. "The case may look like suicide but we don't want to leave any stone unturned. The post-mortem report will be able to throw more light on the matter," the officer said.
